Wimbledon is of course famous for the tennis and the Wombles. But there is much more than that. Some of the names associated with Wimbledon include the writers Robert Graves and Wilfred Owen, the actress Margaret Rutherford, the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer and airman Lord Hugh Dowding. And there are some interesting buildings along the way, including two very different theatres and one of London's few surviving independent department stores. And then there's Merton Council's joking acknowledgement of the Wombles.

So starting at South Wimbledon Underground station and passing Wimbledon station we will go womblin' free in this fascinating walk through SW19.

You can check travel options at the Transport for London Journey Planner.
