Have your say on the future of Wimbledon

Wimbledon is a successful town centre with a strong business, community and employment sector. The town centre also benefits from a good shopping, dining, leisure and cultural offer, enjoyed by residents, visitors and workers alike.

Wimbledon has a history of reinventing itself and the town centre now faces a number of new challenges as well as exciting opportunities that will benefit the town for the long term.

The council has drafted the Future Wimbledon masterplan to supplement Merton’s adopted planning policies for the town centre to ensure greater clarity and confidence in the planning system, promote better quality design and encourage investment.

The draft masterplan is known as a supplementary planning document. It does not establish any new planning policies or allocate sites; at this stage it should be considered as draft guidance on how existing planning policies would be interpreted and applied to development proposals and to guide planning decisions.

The draft Future Wimbledon masterplan was launched at the Wimbledon Community Forum on 28th September 2018.

Next steps:

Responses to the draft Future Wimbledon supplementary planning document will be made public with all personal details removed. All responses will be considered and the Future Wimbledon masterplan will be finalised before being recommended to councillors for adoption early 2019.
