    Wimbledon Bookfest 2017

    Wimbledon Bookfest

    10 magical days on Wimbledon Common

    Wimbledon Bookfest is a charity with large volunteer input and a small team of core workers. It was founded in 2006 by Fiona Razvi and Tony Kane whose ambition was to develop the arts and cultural offering in the area. The public festival takes place in early October in a ‘pop up’ festival site on Wimbledon Common in its Baillie Gifford Big Tent and William Morris Tent.

    It hosts almost 100 events in its 10 day period and has grown from 1,000 visitors in its first year to over 15,000 with 7,000 school children enjoying the festival last year.

    Any money raised is ploughed back into the festival and its education work with local schools. 67 primary and secondary schools took part in Wimbledon BookFest 2016. Central to BookFest is the desire to bring literature to the heart of the community and the community to the heart of literature.

    2017 line up includes: Ali Smith, Chris Riddell, Salman Rushdie, Brian Moore, Tracy Chevalier, Anthony Horowitz, Fergal Keane, Elif Shafak, Jon Sopel, Chris Boardman, Min Kym, Jane Gardam, Nick Hytner, Alexandra Shulman, Chris Patten Evan Davis, Alan Johnson and many more……

    At a time when Bookfest is fast growing its reputation as a regional literary festival, Merton Chamber of Commerce, as your friend in business, is delighted to invite you to a wonderful opportunity to make new connections and share your views on conditions for business at a special business event during the Bookfest week.

    Our speaker is Lord Mark Price, former Managing Director of Waitrose and Deputy Chair of the John Lewis Partnership. He is also the former Conservative Minister for International Trade.

    This event is timely and will cover the very topical issues faced by businesses as we move through the Brexit negotiations. How do business leaders steer their ships through the uncertainties ahead? What leadership and management styles will make them stand out from the rest? What lies ahead in relation to international trade and our European partners?     Lord Mark Price is a British businessman; the former managing director of Waitrose and Deputy Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership. In his book Fairness for All, Mark lays out a plan for inclusive capitalism and engaging employees, as the most important stakeholders in your business. Drawing heavily on the John Lewis Partnership model, Mark will show you how to get your employees in, and on, in work.
